Casino Hotels

Four Canadian complexes are covered here, and all of them are described as hotels and resorts. The entries deal with the buildings, the public parts, the theatres and restaurants, and the ground each one occupies. The gaming floor is not described, not assessed and not discussed anywhere on this site. Age limits set by the provinces apply within these properties.

Montréal Casino & Hotel

Île Notre-Dame, Montréal, Québec, Canada

Montréal Casino & Hotel stands on Île Notre-Dame in the Saint Lawrence, in pavilions raised for the world's fair once held in the city. It is described here as a hotel and resort, with restaurants, halls and a live programme. The gaming floor lies outside the scope of this guide and is not described. The island setting shapes how the place is reached.

The setting

The island lies in the river opposite the city, reached by bridge and by metro to the Jean-Drapeau station. Parkland, the rowing basin and the motor racing circuit surround the complex. The former pavilions keep their original outlines, so the exterior reads as fair architecture rather than as a standard hotel block. Water is visible from most sides.

Inside

Public parts include several restaurants, bars and a cabaret hall used for concerts and shows. Terraces and glazed levels look back across the water toward downtown. Circulation runs through the linked pavilions, and the accommodation is held in its own part of the complex. Programme listings change through the year and are published by the operator.

Notes

Age limits set by the province restrict access to parts of the complex, which affects how visitors move through it. Show listings and restaurant hours change by season. Parking and metro access differ from each other, and the island fills on event days.

Fallsview Casino Resort

Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada

Built into the slope above the Niagara gorge, Fallsview Casino Resort is entered on different levels from different streets. Alongside the hotel it holds a theatre, a spa, shops and a set of restaurants. The gaming floor is not covered by this guide. Galleried public levels run through the building toward the windows that face the falls.

The setting

The resort stands in the Fallsview district on the Canadian side, above the drop and back from the river itself. Other hotels, restaurants and the parkland strip along the gorge surround it. Paths and an incline railway connect the higher streets with the promenade below, and the walk down is steeper than a map suggests.

Inside

Public space is arranged over several levels, with a shopping galleria, restaurants and cafes along the circulation. A theatre stages touring concerts and comedy, and a spa and pool sit within the hotel part. Windows on the upper levels face the falls, and much of the daytime traffic through the building is visitors rather than staying guests.

Notes

Age limits set by the province apply to parts of the complex, and signage marks where they begin. Theatre programmes change and often sell ahead. The district fills in summer, so allow time for parking and for the walk between the upper streets and the river path.

River Rock Casino Resort

Richmond, British Columbia, Canada

River Rock Casino Resort sits beside the Fraser River in Richmond, near the Vancouver airport and on the rapid transit line into the city. The complex combines a hotel with a concert theatre, restaurants, a spa and moorage on the water. The gaming floor falls outside this guide. Its river frontage and transport links define how the place is used.

The setting

The site faces the north arm of the Fraser, with a walkway and boat moorage along the water and low industrial and residential blocks nearby. The airport lies a short distance west, and a Canada Line station stands next to the complex. The riverbank walk continues past the property in both directions.

Inside

Public parts include a theatre used for concerts and touring shows, a set of restaurants and cafes, a spa and meeting space. The hotel occupies its own tower, with a second accommodation building on the same site. Circulation runs mainly on one level, and the water frontage is reached directly from the buildings rather than across a road.

Notes

Provincial age limits apply within parts of the complex. Show listings vary through the year, and the theatre is used for events as well as concerts. Transit reaches the site from both the airport and the city, which is worth checking before arranging a car.

Casino Rama Resort

Rama, Ontario, Canada

Casino Rama Resort stands on the lands of the Chippewas of Rama First Nation in central Ontario, near Orillia. The property brings together a hotel, an entertainment centre used for concerts, restaurants, a spa and a golf course. The gaming floor is not described in this guide. Its setting is rural, well away from any city centre.

The setting

The resort lies inland from Lake Couchiching, among fields, woodland and scattered settlement. Roads reach it from Orillia and from the highway to the south. Buildings spread horizontally across a large site with surface parking around them, and the golf course occupies open ground nearby. Distances between neighbouring places are driving distances.

Inside

The entertainment centre holds a large seated audience and hosts touring music and comedy through the year. Restaurants range from counters to table service, and a spa and meeting rooms sit within the hotel part. Accommodation is held in linked buildings, and internal corridors connect the public areas without going outdoors.

Notes

Provincial age limits apply within parts of the property. Concert programmes change and tickets are sold ahead. The resort lies some distance from the nearest town, so plan transport, and note that the golf season is limited by weather.

Please note

Tavireo is an independent reference and is not connected to any of these complexes. Details come from published sources and change with the season. The site sells nothing, takes no bookings and carries no partner links. Confirm shows, restaurant hours and access with the resort directly before travelling.
