Glansit Kyoto Kawaramachi

Glansit Kyoto Kawaramachi is a capsule hotel in the middle of Kyoto, a short walk from the Kawaramachi shopping streets and the Kamo river. It is one address of the Glansit group rather than the group's only house, and the entry describes this building alone. Guests sleep in enclosed capsules and use shared washing and lounge floors instead of private rooms.

The setting

The house sits among offices, shops and restaurants in the central Nakagyo district, so the street outside stays busy into the evening. Entrances to covered shopping lanes are close by, and the river bank is a short walk east. The building is narrow and tall, and the sleeping floors are reached by lift from a small ground-floor reception.

Inside

Sleeping capsules are arranged in rows along quiet corridors, with men's and women's floors kept apart. Washing facilities are shared, and showers, basins and changing space sit away from the sleeping area. A lounge floor holds seating, tables and drinks machines. Luggage goes into lockers rather than into the capsules, which are sized for sleeping only.

Notes

Quiet hours apply across the sleeping floors, and shoes are left at the entrance in the usual manner. Floors are divided by gender, so people travelling together may be placed apart. Because the group runs houses in other cities, check that a booking points to the Kawaramachi address.

Compact cabins modelled on ship and aircraft berths give YOTEL Amsterdam its plan, with bed, desk and bathroom fitted into one small volume. The house is a separate address of the YOTEL group and not its only European location. Guests spend little time in the cabins themselves, because the ground floors carry the shared kitchen, bar and work space.

The setting

The hotel stands in the eastern part of the city centre, within walking reach of the canal ring and close to tram and metro connections. Apartment blocks, offices and the water of the IJ surround it. The facade is plain and modern, and the entrance opens straight into an arrival hall where guests check themselves in.

Inside

Arrival is handled at screens, with staff nearby for anything the machines cannot settle. Cabins repeat one layout, with adjustable beds and storage set under them. The shared floor holds a kitchen counter, a bar, long tables and softer seating, and it is used through the day rather than only in the evening.

Notes

Cabins are small by design, so ask about storage before arriving with large luggage. The shared floor stays open to guests at most hours and fills at breakfast. Since the group runs houses in many cities, confirm that a booking names the Amsterdam address.

It is one address in the easyHotel group and not the group's only British house. What results is a plain place to sleep in the city centre, run with a short list of staffed services and no restaurant.

The setting

The hotel is in the central part of Manchester, within walking distance of the main shopping streets, the railway stations and the bars of the Northern Quarter. Offices, restaurants and older brick warehouses fill the surrounding blocks. The building presents a narrow frontage to the street, with reception just inside the door.

Inside

Rooms repeat the same compact plan, with a bed, a shower room and hooks or a rail in place of a wardrobe. Reception is staffed and deals with keys, questions and the extras charged on top. Shared space is limited: there is no bar and no dining room, and breakfast is not part of the standard arrangement.

Notes

Extras such as luggage storage, towels and television are charged separately, so read what a rate includes. Windows differ between rooms and some rooms are internal. Confirm that a booking names the Manchester house, since the group lists addresses in other cities.

Capsule Transit KLIA Terminal 1

Inside Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Capsule Transit runs a short-stay capsule house made for passengers between flights rather than for visitors to the city. This is the operator's address in the first terminal, and further sites are run elsewhere at the airport. Sleeping units are taken for blocks of hours as well as for whole nights.

The setting

The house sits within the terminal building itself, so guests reach it without leaving the airport. Around it are the usual corridors, shops and gates. There is no view and no street outside the door, and the internal lighting is controlled rather than following the hour outdoors. Signage inside the terminal leads to the entrance.

Inside

Capsules stand in rows behind shared corridors, in single and double sizes. Washing facilities and lockers are shared, and towels are handled at reception. A lounge area gives seating for waiting between flights, and staff are present through the night because arrivals come at any hour. The atmosphere is kept quiet, since guests sleep at different times.

Notes

Access depends on which side of passport control you are on, so check the operator's page for the terminal and the zone before booking. Stays are sold in blocks of hours, and late arrivals should confirm the reception hour. Airport rules on luggage and security apply to guests as well.
